The media has neglected to tell Mississippi's stories from Hurricane Katrina. As the next hurricane season approaches, Barefoot Workshops with partners and sponsors including Canon Video, Canon Photo, Apple, Mississippi Film Commission, and the Mississippi Department of Education, will be teaching high-school kids in Bay St. Louis, Mississippi how to document and tell their stories using digital video cameras, digital photo cameras and laptops. Students will explore what happened during Katrina and how they coped with the devastation. They will also consider what the coming season holds for them. What if the same things happen? Where will they go? Students will ask these questions and more as they make their way through the one week class. After Barefoot leaves, we hope that students continue with their stories on the coast.
