About The Workshop

In September of 2006 Barefoot Workshops founder, Chandler Griffin, traveled to Kakuma Refugee Camp in Northern Kenya to train FilmAid International’s Participatory Video Program (PVP) in what Barefoot Workshops calls Behavior Change Drama videos. 12 students from Sudan, Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, Somalia and Ethiopia participated in the two week program and produced 5 videos.

Participants wrote, directed, acted in and edited the videos using donated laptops from Barefoot sponsor, Tekserve, and cameras from Cinereach.

The videos drew on the students’ personal experiences with issues and stigmas in the refugee camp dealing with HIV, forced marriage among other things. The goal was to create videos that could be screened to mass audiences addressing the issues people are dealing with on a daily basis.
